Terms of Service

Version 2026-09-21 β€” Effective 2026-09-21

1. Who we are, and what these terms cover

Veridictum is operated by Public Square LLC ("we," "our," "us"). These terms govern your use of veridictum.legal, our API, our MCP server, our pay-per-call agent endpoints, and our integrations with third-party AI platforms (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, accepting these terms, or paying for a call, you agree to them.

2. What the Service does

Veridictum verifies citation identity. For a citation you submit, it determines whether the cited opinion exists in the court record and β€” when you supply a case name β€” whether that name matches the case the reporter citation actually resolves to. A mismatch is the signature of a fabricated citation, and catching it is what the Service is for.

Verification is deterministic. Citations are extracted with regular expressions and looked up in three tiers: a cache of previously confirmed results, a local corpus of court opinions, and the CourtListener API. No language model sits anywhere in the verification path, so a verdict is reproducible rather than generated.

3. What the Service does not do

It does not read holdings. It does not check whether a quotation is accurate, whether a case says what you say it says, or whether a case is still good law. It performs no citator function β€” no Shepardizing, no KeyCiting, no negative treatment analysis.

A result of "verified" means the citation points at a real case, and that the case name you gave matches it. It does not mean the case supports the proposition you cited it for. A result of "not found" means we could not resolve the citation in the sources we search; coverage is not complete, so it is not proof the case does not exist.

4. Not legal advice

Veridictum is a research tool, not a lawyer. Using it does not create an attorney–client relationship with us, and nothing it returns is legal advice. You remain responsible for every citation you file. Verify anything you rely on against the underlying opinion β€” every verified result links to the full text on CourtListener for exactly that purpose.

5. Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials secure; you are responsible for activity under your account and under any API key issued to it. Accounts and API keys are for a single user β€” see Β§9.

6. Plans

Free. 25 verifications per month through the web app. No API access.

Pro. $19 per month or $190 per year. Unlimited verifications, CourtListener links, a personal API key, and access across every supported platform.

Student. Free with a verified .edu email address, with Pro features, active through your expected graduation date plus three months. Student accounts are for educational use β€” coursework, clinics, moot court, journal work and bar preparation. They are not for billable client work. We may revoke a student account, or convert it to the Free plan, if the .edu address cannot be verified, if you are no longer enrolled, or if the account is used commercially.

7. Billing and cancellation

Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your card details. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until canceled. You can cancel or change your plan at any time from the billing portal in your dashboard; cancellation stops the next renewal and your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refund terms β€” including the 14-day money-back period on a first payment β€” are in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. We may change prices with notice; a change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

8. Documents you upload

Your documents are confidential. They are never used to train any model, never sold, and never shared with anyone outside the Service.

To be precise about what happens to a document you upload:

  • The file itself is written to temporary storage, processed, and deleted before the request finishes. We do not keep a copy of your document, and the text of your document is not stored in our database.
  • What we keep is the report. A generated report file, plus a row in our reports table holding the original filename, the report's filename and URL, a hash, the citation counts, and the timestamp. The report itself contains the citations found and the case details they resolved to β€” it does not contain the surrounding text of your document.
  • Reports are kept until you ask us to delete them. We do not currently expire them automatically. Email us and we will delete your reports, your account, and the records attached to it.
  • Our usage analytics never record the filename. They record the file extension, type and size, and nothing else about the file. The original filename is kept only on the report row above, so you can recognise your own report, and it is deleted with the report.

9. Acceptable use

Do not: resell or redistribute verification results as your own service; share an account or an API key between people; attempt to circumvent usage limits, rate limits or authentication; scrape the corpus in bulk; or use the Service to break the law. We may suspend or terminate an account that does.

10. Third-party services

Stripe processes payments and receives the information needed to do so, including your email address and billing details. Stripe is a processor acting on our behalf and its own terms apply to the payment itself.

CourtListener, operated by the Free Law Project, is queried when a citation is not already in our cache or local corpus. Only the citation string is sent β€” the volume, reporter, page and, where given, the case name. Your document is never sent to CourtListener or to any other third party.

If you reach Veridictum through ChatGPT, Claude or another AI platform, that platform's own terms and privacy policy govern what it does with your conversation before it reaches us.

11. API, MCP and agent access

Pro and student accounts receive a personal API key, subject to the daily limits shown in your dashboard. Agents may also pay per call over x402 without an account, in which case payment is the authentication and there is no rate limit.

There is no service level agreement. The API, the MCP server and the agent endpoints are provided without any uptime commitment, and we may change or deprecate an endpoint. A paid call that settles is a payment for that call only; it buys no capacity, no priority and no guarantee of future availability. Pricing for pay-per-call access is advertised in the HTTP 402 response and may change.

12. Warranty disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, that the corpus is complete, or that every verdict is free of error.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Public Square LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or professional sanctions, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms. If we terminate for a reason other than your breach, we refund any unused prepaid period. On termination your access ends; contact us to have your data deleted.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Puerto Rico have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Each version carries an effective date, shown at the top of this page. When the terms change materially, you will be asked to accept the new version the next time you sign in, and API access from your account pauses with a clear message until you do. Continuing to use the Service after accepting means you agree to the version you accepted.
